Turneffe Micro Crab

Some locations including (but not limited to) the flats around the Turneffe Islands require very small patterns to fish effectively for bonefish. Small flies frequently get the nod over larger ones in these types of locations. Enrico's "Turneffe" Micro Crab is an excellent choice to add to your box if you require small patterns for spooky fish.

The #8 Turneffe Micro Crab is the smallest crab fly we have on hand, at approximately 3/4" long (2 cm) by 3/4" wide; it has small plastic eyes, and is essentially an unweighted fly. Please note, landing large fish on such small hooks can be a challenge! Be sure to set a light drag, and play fish carefully. The slim-profile "Bonefish Box" by Anglers Image shown below is probably the best box we have ever seen for carrying standard bonefish patterns - modern "slit foam" design holds flies securely and is easy to insert the flies in. This box will hold approximately 24 standard sized bonefish flies, but still fits easily in a shirt pocket - something that many boxes are advertised to do, but few achieve.
